
"The Government of the Union of Myanmar (Burma) is reminded that the Asean Leaders had called for the immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the regional grouping said in its statement issued late Monday.

If the court convicted, they would face five years imprisonment, an automatic extension of her current term of detention she obtained since 2003.

Thailand, as the Asean Chair, expresses grave concern about recent developments relating to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, given her fragile health, the Asean statement said.
Furthermore, Burma, as a responsible member of Aseab, has the responsibility to protect and promote human rights, it said.
