Clinton telephoned Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya on Saturday to praise Thai reaction over the Burmese junta's move to try Burma's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, said Chavanond Intarakomalyasut, secretary to the minister.
However, Thailand would not take any tough action to pressure the junta for Suu Kyi's freedom, he said.
Thailand, as the chairman of the Asean, would coordinate with other members of the regional grouping to seek solution. Apart from Thailand and Burma, other Asean members were Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.
Aung San Suu Kyi was put on trail Monday for allegedly violating her house arrest's condition as she allowed an American John Yettaw who swam across the Inya Lake to stay at her residence for two days.
Suu Kyi, whose current term of detention expires on May 27, would face five year imprisonment, if she was found guilty of the charge.
