MYSTERIOUS CONTAINERS

Port agency launches investigation

Port Authority of Thailand is trying to identify a company who shipped containers filled industrial wastes to Thailand about 30 years ago, PAT's acting director Sunida Sakulrattana said Monday.

At that time, the company was ordered to take the containers out of the country after the authorities found the industrial wastes in the containers.

"We are checking in a bid to identify the company and whether it really took the containers out of the country or just dumped them in Thai sea," Sunida said.

Relatives of those who went missing in the 1991 May Crisis urged the government to retrieve the containers found on the seabed off Sattahip district as they suspected that the army may dump the missing persons in the containers.
