Ex-lecturer in Ayutthya has seasonal flu



Former lecturer has no influenza 2009. Doctor waits for laboratory result of a boy in Phitsanulok

A result of lab test showed on Thursday that former university lecturer who was quarantined in Ayutthya after developing high fever has a seasonal flu, not Influenza A(H1N1) which is spreading in many countries.

Doctors are still waiting for result of test on a boy in Phitsanulok who has a flu after visiting a foreign country.

Deputy Permanent Secretary to Health Ministry Dr Paijit Warajit said the patient in Ayutthya

suffered from influenza type B, not type A. He will remain in hospital for a few days, the doctor said.

The patient, a former Rajabhat University lecturer, went to Italy, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Egypt from May 1 to 10.

He was admitted to the hospital on late Wednesday night and quarantined him for monitoring after he developed a high fever,

Doctors took his sample for checking whether he had contracted the Influenza A(H1N1) virus.

Dr Paijit said result of a lab test of a boy who just came from a foreign trip under an exchange programme will come out on Friday.

The boy is now quarantined in Puthachinarat Hospital, he said.
