Dr Sitthichai Rung-in of Phranakhorn Si Ayuddhaya Hospital said the patient who is now quarantined looked relaxed and under monitoring via closed-circuit system.
"His condition is now better but still has fever. We allow him to telephone his family," he said.
The result of the lab test will come out within 4pm, the doctor said.
The patient, a former Rajabhat University lecturer, went to Italy, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Egypt from May 1 to 10.
He was admitted to the hospital on late Wednesday night and quarantined him for monitoring after he developed a high fever,
Doctors took his blood sample for checking whether he had contracted the Influenza A(H1N1) virus.
Dr Sitthichai said the hospital has asked provincial health authorities to help contact 25 others who went to the foreign countries with the patient.
If they did not have fever, they did not have to come to the hospital, he said.
A source said some of the group already contacted the hospital to have a lab test on influenza A(H1N1).
