The judges also upheld the sentence imposing life imprisonment on three other defendants, hired by Sitthiphorn Kham-arj to plant a bomb under a car that Pattama Fuengprayoon drove. The explosives went off, killing her instantly on September 6, 1997.
The three defendants are Prasong Saengjan, an explosives expert, former Leoi provincial council member Ekkasit Yoosuk, and former Army Sgt Major Nikhom Jittrakul, who planted the bomb under the Mercedes Pattama was driving. Three of the men were initially handed the death sentence by the Criminal Court, which later commuted it to life imprisonment due to their confession during the trial.
Sitthiphorn, a former Democrat MP for Chathaburi, initially targeted the victim's husband, former Democrat MP Sanit and the father of former Democrat MP Khomkhai Polabutr, but Pattama drove her husband's vehicle on that day.
