Property tycoon killed

A wealthy estate developer was killed yesterday at his luxury Bangkok home by an intruder. Police have arrested a man they say confessed to committing the murder in a fit of rage after the victim refused to pay a debt.

Police say Wanchai Jaytay, 44, was arrested in Sukhumvit Soi 13, making his escape from the home of Anant Singjirakul, the 38-year-old victim and owner of Samirano Property.

He injured two female employees of the firm during the getaway, pistol-whipping one in the face and wounding another with a knife, police added.

Lumpini police say Wanchai claims he was owed nearly Bt2 million after Anant hired him to source scented hardwoods. He first threatened the victim then slashed his throat when he started to fight back.

Police found a loaded revolver and a switchblade on the suspect, who has been charged with premeditated murder, assault and possession of a firearm.

Wanchai's claim that he acted alone is being investigated after police found an SMS on his mobile phone that read "Is it done?"
