In the ranking compiled by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, Mahidol University is the highest placed university in Thailand at 30, with
Chulalongkorn University five spots behind at 35.
Chiang Mai University, meanwhile, is ranked 81st and Thammasat University has 85th place among Thailand institutes.
QS is the world's leading information specialist in the higher education sector.
"Universities in Thailand have performed well, with strong faculty: student ratios. These results, combined with those of the Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings, place Thailand's universities on the world scale for quality higher education," Nunzio Quacquarelli, managing director of QS said.
Ben Sowter, head of research at QS said the advantage of regional rankings is in the richer picture created when comparing universities at a regional rather than global level, through the inclusion of additional factors.
"For example, countries with a first language other than English, use student exchanges as a key approach to internationalisation, which is reflected in the QS.com Asian University Rankings," Sowter said.
