Elephant weddings for Chinese tourists

The World Eminence Chinese Business Association has joined forces with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to launch an "Amazing Love" scheme to have at least 10,000 Chinese couples wed this year on elephant back in Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai.

Association second in command Li Zhuohe yesterday visited Suan Nongnuch Pattaya on a fact-finding tour.

Industry Ministry East Asia Division chief Sansern Ngaorangsi said the scheme, which would include honeymoons, would be fillip to Thai tourism.

He said the three locations selected were well equipped and experienced, especially the Suan Nongnuch tropical garden with its own elephants. He noted that Chinese believed riding an elephant or going under its belly brought good luck.

Suan Nongnuch sales manager Jiraparit Sodon said the park had held elephant-back wedding for Chinese tourists before and was confident it was up to the task.
