Business welcomes emergency decree revocation

Normalcy should be restored within two weeks after the government revokes the state of emergency today, said Federation of Thai Industries Chairman Santi Vilassakdanont.

He said that the revocation should restore investor confidence in Thailand but the government will need to update foreign investors and media within 1-2 days.

On fears that the revocation may encourage protesters to renew their protest, he said it would not be worrisome if the protesters do not resort to violent means and if the government can keep the protests under control.

Board of Trade deputy secretary-general Pornsilp Patcharintanakul is positive that the government's decision is driven by the confidence that it could handle the situation. He noted that after the parliamentary discussion, all parties must reconcile to work out a solution for the country.
