An Oxonian plea


The students from Oxford University and Doverbrook College yesterday issued an open letter to the Thai Journalists Association expressing concern over the situation in the country and calling for an end to violence.

The letter included the following pleas:

-Each party refrains from using violence;

-Refrain from making statements that can instigate conflicts and divisions;

-Each party respects people with different opinions, supports peaceful activities and refrains from violating the rights of others

To prevent violence, the students called on each party to adhere to the following points:

-Enforcing law without discrimination;

-Having security forces, including the police and military, carry out their duties in a straightforward, unbiased manner;

-Having the media present reports that are neutral, ethical and responsible;

-Having political groups meet in peace; abide by law and refrain from causing disturbances;

-lSpeeding up political reform by allowing every part of society to participate.
