National police chief to address on pooled TV

National Police Chief Pol Gen Patcharawat Wongsuwan is scheduled to speak on Monday about police's investigations on both the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and its rival, the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).

The police chief is expected to inform the public on the development of cases related to the PAD after its main leaders were prosecuted for occupying Government House and seizing Bangkok's two airports—Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang—last year.

The general will also speak to the public about the cases against the so-called Red Shirt UDD leaders who led their supporters to invade the Pattaya hotel venue of the recent Asean Summit, forcing its abrupt postponement 10 days ago.

UDD demonstrations also caused chaos in Bangkok during the Songkran Festival and the leading protesters are now facing legal charges.

The police chief will report on progress in the investigation of the assassination attempt against a top PAD leader, Sondhi Limthongkul, last Friday.
