Taxi drivers say they did not killed five

Two taxi drivers, both in their 50s, were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of killing five people at a luxury estate earlier this month.

After a nightlong interrogation, Paritat Numnoi confessed that he and Wanchai Onpan broke into the mansion in Bangkok's Beung Kum district on April 11.

Paritat said Wanchai went through the house killing all five people in it one by one before making off with three computer notebooks, a desktop computer, four cellphones and Bt20,000 cash.

"I joined him because he said we would only tie up the victims and take away their valuables," Paritat said.

The victims were Thanayos Pathumwassana, a furniture factory owner, his wife, their two teenage children and their housemaid.

Thanayos was also dabbling in the realestate business.

Paritat said Wanchai might have been a familiar face at the house because the housemaid seemed to know him.

"After what happened, I was given Bt10,000," he said.

Police had Paritat replay his crime at the house amid verbal abuses and curses from the victims' relatives.

Wanchai did not join the re-enactment since he claimed he was innocent.

Police are investigating the case further to see who else was involved and what was the motive behind the killings.
