Pheu Thai MP Suchart Lainam demanded an explanation from PM's Office Minister Satit Wongnongtaey for, in Suchart's words, not implementing government policies as stated and muzzling information disclosure.
Satit could not respond to the accusation because he was stuck at Democrat Party headquarters, which was blocked by red-shirted protesters.
Chai postponed the answering of the interpellation [demand for an explanation], citing the irregular political situation.
But immediately after he ordered the session to be adjourned, opposition MPs shouted, booed and jeered Chai, saying Parliament should have been dissolved instead.
Their action drew anger from Democrat MP Attaporn Polbutr.
"You are a group that wants to destroy the institution. You want to sell our motherland,'' he jeered at them.
"You are a buffalo. You belong to Prem Institution,'' Suchart shot back.
Then Suchart moved to confront Attaporn but about 10 Democrats stopped him from getting into a scuffle. A group of Pheu Thai MPs led by Suchart then held a press conference condemning Chai's move to close the House meeting on grounds that the red-shirted protesters may lay siege to Parliament.
They said that Chai had disgraced the legislature and that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva also failed to attend the House session.
The group, taking recourse in Article 179 of the Constitution, challenged Abhisit to call a House vote to find a solution to the political crisis facing the country.
They said he must bring the red shirt's three demands to the House for deliberation.
