The move would cost the agency a loss of Bt4 million per day, said Assistant to Director of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), Wirat Chokkhatiwat.
He said the city buses, which ply around the areas, where the antigovernment protesters have gathered such as Suan Amporn, Sisao Thewes residence, and the Government House, were told to change the terminals. For example, route number 72 (Khlong Toei Pier to Thewes) will have its terminal at the Priest Hospital and number 503 (Rangsit to Sanam Luang) will shift from Rajdamnoen Avenue to Lan Luang Road, he said.
The BMTA has also dispatched patrol officials to assess the situation at major intersections such as Thewes Intersection, the intersection in front of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Democracy Monument Intersection in case more rerouting is needed.
Advising the public to avoid areas where the protesters have gathered, he urged them to call the BMTA's hotline 184 for route information.
