Political tension expected to ease: Boonyod

Democrat Party deputy spokesman Boonyod Sukthinthai said Friday that the political situation would improve because former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra had listened to a senior figure he deeply respects.

Boonyod said he had received reliable information that Thaksin left Dubai to a European country Thursday night to meet the senior person.

Boonyod said Thaksin was advised by a person close to him in Chiang Mai to meet the senior person, who is in 80 years old and is a distant relative but ahs been close to Thaksin's family for several generations.

Boonyod added that the person was a former ambassador.

"This person is close to Thaksin since the grandparent generation and he is a former ambassador. This is a good thing to happen that could improve the situation," Boonyod said.

He said he expected Thaksin would tone down his speech and would make more constructive statements in the new future.

"I believe the person Thaksin respects will provide him new information or a new alternative, which could be Thaksin's way-out," Boonyod said.

He said Thaksin appeared aggressive these days apparently because he listened too much to his aides, especially leaders of the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship.
