US President Obama invited to visit Thailand


London—Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has invited US President Barack Obama to visit Thailand before or after his trip to Singapore in October.

Abhisit met Obama at the reception given by Queen Elizabeth II at the Buckingham Palace on April 1. During their brief chat, Abhisit took the opportunity to invite him to Thailand. Obama is scheduled to attend the Asia Pacific Economic leaders' meeting in Singapore in October, according to a closed aide, who asked not to be identified .

In response, the official said Obama replied: "I spent a few years in Southeast Asia. I am familiar with your part of the world, Mr. Prime Minister." His wife, Michelle was also presented during the conversation. She said she was looking forward to visiting and learning more about Southeast Asia.

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya is visiting Washington DC later this month. He is scheduled to hold talks with US State Secretary Hilary Clinton on bilateral relations and possible visit of Obama to Thailand.
