Revenue tax income shortfall estimated at Bt185 bn

The Revenue Department's revenue could be Bt185 billion or 14 per cent below target in the 2009 fiscal year, inclusive of the Bt48.4 billion shortfall in the first six months of the fiscal year, said spokesman Sathit Rangkasiri.

During January 1-March 31, 7.96 million individual taxpayers filed documents to pay combined income taxes of Bt113 billion, including 5.2 million online filings. Of total, 2.1 million claimed for tax refunds, worth Bt12.5 billion.

Sathit said the revenue is close to target, but it could fall next year due to rising unemployment as well as some stimulus measures like the Bt300,000 allowances on property purchases.
