''We will cash in on their shopping trend by increasing the number of 108 Shop this year by 30 per cent,'' said Vathit.
The additional 200 outlets to be opened this year will bring the number of 108 Shop stores to 900 nationwide. Of the total new outlets, half will be funded by the company's own investment with the rest operated by local franchisees. Each shop requires an average investment of about Bt600,000.
The company will also add more services at its existing convenience stores, notably more counters for paying electricity and telephone bills free of charge.
Currently the company offers that service at only 30 outlets. Eventually all outlets will do so. The company is also considering more 108 Shop brand goods. It currently has four: dish-washing liquid, detergent, floor-cleaner and fabric-washer.
"Our house-brand products are more popular than we expected,'' Vathit said, noting that, for example, a three-kilogram packet of 108 Shop detergent sells for Bt129, compared to some brands costing Bt160.
