Applicants sought for govt training project

Unemployed workers, those facing layoff and fresh graduates can apply for vocational training and financial assistance through a government project. March 24 is the deadline for the first batch of applicants, who must be between 18 and 60 years of age.

Applications can be filed from Tuesday onward at www.tonkla-archeep.com or at state-employment offices nationwide. Applications can also be submitted at Impact Muang Thong Thani, Hall 3, on Sunday.

Financed by a budget of Bt6.9 billion, the project is expected to cover 240,000 people this year.

Qualified applicants will be selected on a random basis and the list of successful candidates will be announced on March 26.

Deputy Prime Minister Korbsak Sabhavasu said yesterday that the government had launched the project as an urgent measure to deal with the problem of unemployment, which is expected to hit one million this year.

According to the project's deputy chairman Dr Kanok Wongtrangarn, participants will undergo a free vocational training course for no longer than one month. During that period, they will receive a living and transportation allowance.

Following the training, those who choose to return to their home province to start over will also be given extra transportation coverage plus an assistance of about Bt4,800 a month for no more than three months.

Kanok said some 935 courses would be held in line with the participants' interest and aptitude.

"We have 25,820 training centres across the country thanks to cooperation from universities, civic organisations and other agencies," he explained.

The first batch will start training from April 1. The next round of applications will be accepted between May 11 and 22 via www.tonkla-archeep.com. Those interested can call 1111 or (02) 282 6982 for more information.
