BT2,000 CHEQUES

Bangkok Bank wins the 5 million lot

Bangkok Bank won the bid to issue 5 million of the Bt2,000 cheques on behalf of the Social Security Office, with the lowest bid price at Bt2 each, Deputy Prime Minister Korbsak Sabhavasu said on Monday.

He noted that the government would award the contract to any bank, privately-owned or state-owned, which quotes the lowest prices, due to limited budget.

Earlier, there are reports that the SSO and the Comptroller General's Department clashed over the bid winner. The department preferred awarding the contract to state-owned Krung Thai Bank, which quoted its cost at Bt3 per cheque. There were fears that the disagreement may led to the delay in the distribution of the cheques on March 26.

Of total 9.4 million cheques, 8.1 million is under the responsibility of the Labour Ministry and 1.3 million under the Department's responsibility.
