Suthiphon Thaveechaiyagarn said the five EC members were selected legally and approved by the Senate. But a military coup occurred before the royal endorsement.

However, the coup-makers appointed the EC members as they are crucial to the country.

Suthiphon was reacting after outgoing EC member Sumeth Ubanisakorn said the current EC was "false".

"This EC is real," Suthiphon said, adding that he sought the PM's Secretariat's comment on whether the appointment was legal. He received the answer that the Council for National Security appointment was legal according the Constitution.

"I think Sumeth was presenting his personal opinion. He might have been upset that his appointment lacked royal endorsement as that would be prestigious. But the other EC members did not talk about this. All of them continue their work," Suthiphon said.
