Some Asean leaders were apparently afraid of "shoe missiles" landing on them, following the recent case in which an Iraqi journalist flung his shoes at outgoing US President George W Bush in Baghdad.
A source from the
Asean Civil Society Group also told The Nation that 10 of their representatives had been instructed to remove their shoes before entering the hall to meet
Asean leaders for fear that some of the leaders could be attacked by "shoe missiles". The "request" was later withdrawn.
