Eligibility for senior-citizen allowance



From today to March 15, people who are 60 years or older, can register for the monthly Bt500 allowance at their tambon, provincial administrative organisations or Bangkok district offices. Applicants must have the following qualifications:

l A Thai national;

l Born before April 1, 1949;

l Are not eligible for any other welfare or privilege from government organisations, state enterprises or local administrative organisations;

l Do not live in state-owned homes for the elderly;

l Do not earn any income from government or local administrative organisations.

 

Applicants need to present the follow documents when registering. (If choosing a proxy to apply, proper power of attorney will need to be presented):

l The original and a photocopy of identification card or an ID issued by a government organisation;

l The original and a copy of savings bank book.

How the payment will be made:

l Local administrative organisations will pay each senior citizen Bt500 per month for six months either in cash or by bank transfer;

l Allowance payments will begin from April.

The allowance will discontinue if:

l The senior citizen passes away;

l They waive their rights through a written document addressed to their local administrative organisation.
