NHA launches leasing programme for poor clients

National Housing Authority expects to unload 20,000 units of Ban Ua Athorn through its own leasing programme, to help the low-income earners who face difficulties in tapping bank loans.

Deputy governor Siriroj Chaopaknam said the agency does not need to borrow to finance the programme, as it has obtained bank loans to finance the construction of the cheap housing project.

He said the leasing programme could last 5 years on expectation that when the economy improves, the borrowers with higher income can refinance the debts with financial institutions. Over 10 years ago, the programme was first launched with World Bank's financial backup.

NHA also expects to sell 15,000 units to civil servants and employees of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
