Nortel Networks sets ambitious plans

Nortel Networks (Thailand) will focus more on tapping the government, financial and manufacturing sectors this year, Arom Phornpraphan, country leader for the company's channel and enterprise business, said on Friday.

Mark Fioretto, vice president for South Asian enterprise business at Canadian telecom-equipment manufacturer Nortel Networks, the local subsidiary's parent, said his company was operating as usual and had even won new contracts in Asia.

This despite filing for bankruptcy protection in both Canada and the US on January 14, which will allow it to continue operating while undertaking comprehensive business and financial restructuring.

Fioretto said his company would emerge from the restructuring process more focused and financially sound.
