Google Translate now 'speaks' Thai Language

Searching beyond the Language Barrier

Google announced the launch of a full suite of translation tools of 42 languages to and from the Thai language at http://translate.google.co.th .

Now over 14 million Internet users in Thailand can find and view foreign-language web content in their own language using the Google Translate translation service. With these free tools, Thai-speaking users can translate text phrases or specific webpages to and from the Thai language. They can also use Thai keywords to search for webpages that are published in 42 languages and have the results automatically translated back into the Thai language. In addition, Google is making available a translation website gadget that Thai-language website owners can use to have their webpages instantly appear in up to 42 other languages.

"At Google we believe that the Internet is about enabling access to the world's information—all the world's information, regardless of language," said Derek Callow, marketing manager, Google Southeast Asia. "Today's launch of Google Translate in Thai language makes it easier for millions of Thai-speaking Internet users to search and access much more web content in their own local language."

"Google Translate also allows Internet users to contribute to the improvement of translations to and from the Thai language. When users come across an inaccurate translation, the tool allows them to suggest a better translation than the machine translation," Callow said.

Go multi-lingual with Google Translate for foreign-language text and webpages

Thai fans of Korean TV series can keep up with all the news and gossip about their favorite Korean soap stars when searching on the web. Copy and paste the original text into the box labeled "Enter text or a webpage URL" on http://translate.google.co.th . Google can automatically detect the language of the text you pasted into the box. Simply select "Detect language" on the left-hand drop-down menu.

To translate the contents of an entire webpage—say, a Thai football fan who is keen to keep up on all the latest news from the UK Premier leagues —paste the URL of the UK football club's website into the box labeled "Enter text or a webpage URL" on http://translate.google.co.th . Within a matter of seconds, Google is able to analyze the contents of the webpage and deliver them to you in Thai language or in any of the 42 languages you can choose from.

Use translated search to expand your search horizons

Take, for example, a Thai student that wants to get a recipe for Italian Calamari to cook for his friends.   If the student is searching in Thai language, this type of information is going to be very limited - the majority of information on this subject is likely to be in Italian.   But what if the student could receive web search results about Italian calamari in Italian language, then translated back into Thai language for him?

Push your website or blog beyond the language barrier

Google's translation website gadget can help make Thai language website content more accessible to users around the world—all just by adding one line of HTML code to the website. For example, with companies from all over the world looking at Thai business opportunities, the Google Translation gadget allows you to have your Thai-language website translated into up to 42 languages at the click of a mouse, opening your business up to the world.

The translation website gadget is free and easy to embed in your website. Visit the "Tools" tab on Google Translate, select Thai for the language of your webpage, then cut and paste the automatically-generated HTML snippet and include it in your website. Now when users visit your Thai language website, they can automatically translate your website into one of 42 languages using the drop-down menu on the embedded gadget. The user will then be taken to an automatically translated version of your website.
