Pattani bomb kills three policemen



Pattani - A bomb explosion Thursday killed three police, who were returning to base after escorting teachers to school The bomb, planted on a public road in Nongjik district was detonated by a mobile phone shortly after 8 am as the pickup truck carrying police passed over it.

Three policemen died instantly in the blast and fourth was listed in critical condition from his injuries.

The victims were Pol Yuttakarn Plienpho, 51, Pol Sgt Wassapon, 51 and Pol Sgt Winai Hemmun, 35. 

Police said the attack was an effort by the militants to counter the progress Thai authorities have made in winning people in this district over to the government side.
