Australia Dash Thai Hope in Fed Cup

The Nation - Thailand's hope to reach the final was dashed by Australia as the host won their second preliminary round at the State Tennis Centre in Burswood, Perth on Thursday.

Playing in Pool B, Thailand lost the first clash when the resurgent Jelena Dokic vanquished beat Suchanan Viratprasert 6-1 6-2 to give Australia the first point.

Later Smantha Stosur clawed back from 2-5 in the second set to upset Tamarine Tanasugarn 4-6 7-5 6-0 and helped her team to top the group with two wins including the 3-0 victory over South Korea on Wednesday.

Thailand which beat Taiwan 3-0  is now 1-1 and is unlikely to win the pool which should be dominated by the powerful Australia.
