Suthep to face libel suit over "President" comment


Pheu Thai Party will file a libel suit against Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban for his comment that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra hoped to return to power as President of Thailand, Pheu Thai Party party list MP Manit Jitjanklab said on Wednesday.

Manit who is part of Pheu Thai Party legal team said Suthep intended to politically harass Thaksin with such comment. He said public prosecutors had earlier dropped charges against suspects accused of not being loyal to the monarchy. He said the party will soon file the suit aginst Suthep.

Meanwhile the Opposition will also on Thursday launch a fresh interpallation against Suthep, Chief opposition whip Withaya Buranasiri said on Wednesday.

Withaya said Suthep's comment would cause futher division in society and he demanded that Suthep explain his point.

The government would also be grilled for raising oil price without reason during the ordinary House session on the same day.



Suthep was making comment about Thaksin's hope to come back as President after Thaksin made a twenty minutes phone-in to a Pheu Thai Party seminar saying that he would return to the post of PM.

The seminar was held at a resort outside Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima.

Pheu Thai Party party list MP Chalerm Yoobamrung turned on the tape recorded Thaksin's 20 minutes phone in at a press conference saying Thaksin did not say he wish to return to power as President.

He also reviewed the tape that recorded Suthep's remark that saidThaksin wanted to become President.
