EC to review whether to endorse nine MPs-elect on Thursday

The Election Commission has scheduled Thursday to review the reports on alleged campaign violations involving nine MPs-elect in the January 11 byelections, EC secretary general Suthiphon Thaveechaigarn said on Tuesday.

The EC delayed the endorsement of the nine byelections on the ground that it needed more time to examine the investigative reports. Initially it said it would comment reviewing the reports by yesterday.

Suthiphon said seven additional complaints were filed against the nine MPs-elect after the balloting.

Of the complaints lodged, electoral investigators have completed four reports. The EC is expected to begin its review by scrutinising the four cases, one in Ang thong, one in Uthai Thani and two in Lamphun.

In regard to an outcome of its yesterday's meeting, the EC cleared the backlog of three campaign complaints for the senatorial race. The EC decided to drop the case relating to the Nakhon Sawan campaign and two other cases from Rayong and Mae Hong Son were withdrawn by complainants.

This brought about the completion of the EC scrutiny on the senatorial race.
