The BBC said some Thai military and police sources had admitted that marine units along the coast had been turning away rising numbers of Rohingyas reaching Thailand from Burma or Bangladesh, citing security concerns.
Earlier this week, the Washington-based Refugees International accused the Thai military of pushing refugees and migrants intercepted on boats back out to sea after removing their engines, saying the policy endangered their lives and exposed them to the risk of capsizing or sinking.
Refugees International advocate Sean Garcia said the Thai government should be "engaging the Burmese government on improving conditions at home for the Rohingyas, if it wants to stem these flows".
