Pheu Thai splinter group will side with coalition: Chaovarat

Interior Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul on Thursday claimed that a splinter group of 20 Pheu Thai MPs will work with the coalition alliance although they are obligated to remain on the opposition bench.

Chaovarat said the MPs actually are allies of the Friends of Newin faction who rushed to adopt the Pheu Thai banner following the disbandment of the People Power Party, hence they are barred to swich party before the expiry of the House term.

He said the splinter group will keep ties with his Bhum Jai Thai Party.

Other MPs from the Friend of Newin joined the Bhum Jai Thai on Wednesday.

The Constitution prevents MPs from bolting their party unless it is dissolved. So, the Pheu Thai MPs of the Newin's faction will have to remain there until before the next election.
