National committee on logistics sought

The Thai Federation on Logistics yesterday asked the Industry Ministry to establish a national logistics committee.

Vice chairman Krirkkla Sonthimas met with Industry Minister Charnchai Chairungrueng to ask the ministry to sponsor the set-up of a national logistics committee.

He said the logistics industry is now under the fragmented supervision of many state agencies.

He would also meet Deputy Industry Minister Alongkorn Pollabutr tomorrow to discuss the possibility of pushing the National Logistics Committee bill through Parliament in the same way as the establishment

of the Federation of Thai Industries.

The logistics body would help develop the industry with efficiency and competitiveness, he said.

"The federation want the government to establish another committee to prevent and resolve any problems when emergency situations arise," he said.

For example, when an emergency struck Singapore, what it did at that time was to deliver all shipments on time and then come back to sort out the documentary work later.
