The Minor Hotel Group has appointed French national Didier Tourneboeuf as general manager of the Anantara Qasr al-Sarab Resort and Spa in Abu Dhabi, which is slated for opening late this year.

Formerly general manager of Le Royal Meridien Abu Dhabi, Didier has a very strong background in hotel openings, having worked as part of the launch teams of Meridien hotels in Australia, the US, China, Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia.

Minor Hotel Group chief operating Officer Dillip Rajakarier said Didier would be instrumental in cementing Anantara's position as one of the top emerging players on the worldwide hotel stage.

Nike manufacturer in Khon Kaen to reduce overtime

Footwear Components, which manufactures Nike footwear in Khon Kaen province, has no plans to lay off workers but will reduce overtime to cope with the economic slowdown.

Factory manager Seksan Pengchit yesterday said the company had already reduced overtime from 10 hours a week to four.

Khon Kaen deputy governor Phayat Charnprasert said he and the provincial labour authorities asked Footwear Components about its employee situation. The company said if foreign orders dropped off, it could switch to producing shoe accessories and backpacks. It will also seek new markets, in order to reduce risk in existing ones facing recession.

Phayat said the company could recruit at least 200 workers to support backpack and shoe-accessory production in the future. - The Nation
