Education Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said the money would go toward its

"We will spend about Bt6 billion on giving free textbooks, Bt4.5 billion on giving school uniforms, Bt2 billion on learning materials, and Bt4 billion on special activities," he said.

Private schools would get Bt1.5 billion worth of subsidies, he said.

Over the past few years, the government has offered "free" education for 12 years but this generally meant no tuition fees for pupils.
