Radomyos Madjua made a big splash at the Sports Authority of Thailand's pool to rewrite his own 200m butterfly record.
Radomyos, who performed superbly at the recent National Games in Phitsanulok to capture seven gold medals for overall champions Bangkok, clinched two golds yesterday. His surge to win the men's 200m breaststroke was impressive, but in the 200m butterfly event, the Chulalongkorn swimmer retained his title with a record shattering 2:06.74.
Swimming queen Natthanun Junkrajang of the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce, who swept nine golds at the National Games, also landed two titles - the 50m breaststroke and the 800m freestyle.
However, her determined bid for the 4x100m freestyle relay medal was sunk by a poor showing from her teammates. UTCC finished fifth. Chulalongkorn swam away with the gold medal, clocking 4:07.08. Chula ruled the pool yesterday, plundering four out of the six golds at stake.
Meanwhile, Beijingbound javelin thrower Buoban Pamang of Kasem Bundit overcame her shoulder injury to take the gold with a 45.08m first attempt, a far cry from her perŽsonal best of 61.40m at the Bangkok Universiade.
In the badminton competition, world No 34 Salakjit Ponsana assisted Sripatum University to win the women's team gold, while Chulalongkorn took the men's competition.
Hosts Ramkamhaeng University claimed its first two gold medals, one going to Junya Kerdtho in the women's singles petanque.
Kasem Bundit and Chulalongkorn lead the medal charge with five golds apiece. However, the former are in pole position with eight silvers versus the latter's two.
