Hospital raid reminiscent of the Nazis

I cannot believe what I read in the other English language paper about government opponents entering the intensive care unit of a hospital in Ubon Ratchathani, hurling verbal abuse at 84 year old Grandma Niam who was close to her death and also later threatened to disturb her funeral.

I also read that she was aware of this assault and it my well have accelerated her demise. I have lived in Ubon for over 2 years and have met many kind and friendly people, but also noticed that there is a large hard core of Thaksin worshippers, who would vote for him, even if his manifesto stated he would have their their fathers and mothers killed after being elected. Can anyone please tell me that this hospital story was based on a misinformation? If there were really some thugs doing things like this I could only repeat my previous comment, that they should change the colour of their shirts from red to brown, as behaviour like the one shown in Ubon reminds one of Hitler's storm-troopers, the notorious brown-shirted SA. I now wonder if these people will be prosecuted, as entering an ICU without permission is in itself a punishable offence.

Europeans' blind failure |to reject Hamas

Seemingly eyeless to the blighted rule of Hamas in Gaza, European critics would deny Israel the right to defend its own territory - thus giving a most incongruous preference to terrorists who openly scorn all that 2,000 years of European thought has wrought in human affairs. Their rejection of the occasional terrorist outrages threatening their own kith and kin is well placed - yet they would allow a jealousy-inspired hatred of Israel's ally America to forfeit for themselves any claim to moral superiority.

It's time once again for Europe's critics of Israel to find their souls.

War crimes? Who's fit |to decide?

Please help me out!! The UN and some others want to investigate whether war crimes have been committed by Israel. Perhaps I just don't understand. Who will do the investigating? Will it be the same people that haven't said one word, I repeat, one word about years of rockets, suicide bombers, etc that have been directed solely against civilians by Hamas, Hizbollah? hmmmm. just puzzled!

Keep Thaksin views |legal not personal

According to your newspaper (December 10, 2009), Thaksin Shinawatra's former lawyer and former foreign minister Noppadol Patama says he should not be stripped of his rank of "police lieutenant colonel" because he has done a lot of good things for the country, there are other unnamed police officers in jail who still retain their rank, and it is not a priority item.

None of this answers the central question of whether having been convicted and also having fled under the Police Department regulations, Thaksin should lose his police rank. To say that he has done other good things or that there is other more important state business are pure personal opinions of Mr Noppadol, and not legal reasons why he is entitled to keep his rank. As an attorney, Mr Noppadol must know the difference between a personal view and a legal argument.

Since resigning, Mr Noppadol has spoken out on the Thaksin police rank issue and also was quoted in the newspaper last week as saying he was not happy with some of the government's comments about Hun Sen (the article did not say what the alleged offending comments were). It is my personal opinion that there are also more pressing national issues than these two things.
