The new ban on family photography inside the Thai Ku Fa building was due to tightened security measures around Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
A woman was also prevented yesterday from handing a gift box to Abhisit due to security concerns. Abhisit proved popular with children, however, and many queued up for his autograph.
Motorcycles used in motorcades for state visitors were also shown at Government House for children to have their photos taken on.
Security was very heavy; police asked to examine all cameras before they were taken into the compound. However, there were no incidents except for a woman wearing red protesting against the premier while his motorcade passed through the only gate used yesterday.
Police prepared 2,000 free photographs for the children, but it was not enough. The premier also met some children, including Prathom 4 student Chatsama Traisuriyatham from Sacred House School in Nonthaburi province, who won an essay contest. She told the premier there were not enough computers at her school and three or four students had to share one.
The prime minister was also asked by a student about corruption and said the corrupt were afraid of the light and people must help the government to cast light on them.
Abhisit later met student representatives to briefly discuss the need to learn about democracy constructively.
