
Tesco Lotus chairman Sunthorn Arunanondchai said next year, the purchase volume is expected to increase to Bt120 million.
"As a leader in the retail business, we also recognized that it is our responsibility, especially in the current economic situation, to help promote the production and demand for local agricultural products, help farmers earn a fair and steady income and, at the same time, provide our customers with quality farm produce which is good for their health at a reasonable price," Sunthorn concluded.
The Royal Projects assist many thousands of farmers covering over 8,000 rai of planted crops. Total production of all 158 varieties of vegetables is over 12,000 tonnes annually, worth about Bt261 million per year. Tesco Lotus is the biggest single buyer of Royal Projects produce.
Tesco Lotus said it buys fresh vegetables from consolidators and farmers worth approximately Bt1 billion per year. In recent years, the company has been helping farmers stabilise the price of seasonal fruit and finding markets for their harvests by buying seasonal fruits such as longan, durian, mangosteens and rambutans.
