Red shirt protesters rally at FM

A small group of pro-Thaksin protesters held a brief demonstration in front of the Foreign Ministry on Thursday, demanding the government to dissolve the parliament and postpone the Asean summit.

The red shirt protesters, of so-called "Saman Luang Group Loves Democracy," waved banners condemning Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya for his active participation in the airport seizures.

In their statement, they said the current government is disqualified to hold chairmanship of the Asean and host the summit. They handed over the statement to Kasit via an official.

The government should dissolve the lower house to return power to people in order to have a new legitimate government, they said.

Ministry spokesman Tharit Charungvat said the ministry viewed the protesters as exercising their democratic right and would take their demands into consideration.

Protesters came to protest at the ministry quite often since the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) rallied against previous foreign ministers who they considered having close connection to deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
