Suthep promises transparency in bus leasing

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thuagsuban, as the supervisor of the Transport Ministry, announced on Thursday that the ministry's plan to lease 4,000 air-conditioned buses could be altered if irregularities are found.

He said that he would discuss with Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kachornprasat and Democrat Party member Thavorn Senniem who criticised the project in the previous government. He also referred to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's comment that the project is good, but all must ensure that the leasing procedure benefits the country and is transparent.

He also noted that it is favourable that the media and the press help scrutinise the issue and he is ready to listen to all. He also insisted that the government would not disappoint the public, in terms of corruption.
