EC to seek ruling on Senator Ruangkrai's qualification

The Election Commission resolved yesterday to seek a ruling from the Constitution Court on the qualification of appointed Senator Ruangkrai Leekitwatana.

The EC reasoned that the agency, which nominated Ruangkrai to a selection committee, might not be constitutionally qualified to make the nomination.

Ruangkrai has been actively filing complaints against political officeholders, including MPs and former ministers. It was a complaint filed by Ruangkrai with the EC that led to disqualification of former prime minister Samak Sundaravej for being hired by a private firm to host TV programmes.

In his latest move, Ruangkrai filed a complaint with the Attorney-General, seeking dissolution of the Democrat Party for having allegedly breached the law by working with banned politicians to set up the new government.
