Timor president to visit Thailand next week



East Timor's President Jose Ramos-Horta would visit Thailand on an official visit between January 11 - 13, becoming first foreign official visit for Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

It was also the first official visit by Horta as the President of Timor-Leste to Thailand, Foreign ministry said Tuesday.

His Majesty the King would grant an audience with Horta at Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin.

Horta would deliver a keynote speech titled "Is Long Lasting Peace an Attainable Dream?, at Ramkhamhaeng University where he will receive  an honorary doctorate degree in political science.

Horta received Nobel Peace Prize in 1996 for his peaceful struggle for independent of Timor-Leste from Indonesia.

The president survived from a gun assassination attempt in February last year.
