Refineries urge delay in Euro IV standard

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has proposed the Energy Ministry delay the implementation of Euro IV oil standard by 1-2 years, now that refineries may need to reduce investment budgets amid economic slump.

The ministry originally plans to force all refineries to meet the standard implemented in the Euro zone.

Chainoi Puankosoom, president and CEO of PTT Aromatics and Refining Plc and president of the FTI's refinery club, said that the delay would reduce the investment amounts. Originally, to meet the standard, refineries in Thailand are expected to invest over US$2 billion or about Bt70 billion.
