He said the coalition had only a small majority in Parliament and could not afford to lose any support. Moreover, 30 out of 235 government MPs have been appointed ministers, so that according to the Constitution they cannot vote in Parliament, particularly during censure debates in which they are targeted, said Sanan.
Sanan, who is a key member of the Chart Thai Pattana Party, said the PM must not ignore or be indifferent to the thoughts and feeling of coalition partners.
"If this government fails, it will be due not to others but to itself. There must be principles in managing coalition partners," said the veteran politician, who was once secretary-general of the Democrat Party.
Sanan said it was also important for Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to listen to all sectors of society to survive the three years left in this term of the House. He warned that some MPs had a tendency to sell their support and might defect to the opposition when voting took place.
He said the government might want to woo the support of another 30 to 35 MPs from the opposition to strengthen itself.
As for the upcoming snap election on January 11, Sanan said he expected his party to win at least 10 seats.
