Hotels in Trang are half-booked for the New Year eve and 70 per cent booked for Jan 1, compared to last year's occupancy rate of 80-90 per cent in the same period last year, said Thamrinthana Hotel general manager Phinyo Tengrang.

He attributed the lower occupancy rate to the global recession as well as ongoing political conflicts at home. Still, he is optimistic that more Thai tourists - who do not prefer advance booking - could emerge in the Southern province on the New Year eve. - The Nation
