Fuel tariff set to rise in 1st quarter

The Energy Regulatory Commission yesterday announced it was prepared to raise the fuel tariff (FT) for next year's January-April period.

Chairman Direk Lawansiri said the natural-gas price, which had lagged behind oil prices for six months, continued to rise and  the FT must be increased.

However, the commission will try its best to defer some of the additional burden to subsequent rounds. The new FT should be known in mid-January, he said.

SECC denies auto importation

SEC Auto Sales and Services (SECC) says it has not imported any cars for two years, says the Customs Department.

This counters news reports the company imported 476 cars that subsequently disappeared from bonded warehouses belonging to the department.

The last car imported by SECC was recorded on November 22, 2006.

SECC shares were suspended from trading on December 4 until an investigation into the company's operations could be concluded.

Thai PBS to adjust content

Thai PBS will adjust its programme line-up next year to provide more local news and children's content, says station director Thepchai Yong.

The network also plans to broadcast over the radio and the Internet and start construction on a new Bt1.5-billion building next year. - The Nation
