
Bangkok dominated the karate-do competition with three gold medals, leaving Krabi to take the remaining gold. Bangkok and hosts Phitsanulok battled it out in the body building event to share two golds apiece. Chon Buri and Chiang Mai took one gold each.
Bangkok's wrestlers also made their mark yesterday sharing honours with Phrae with at two golds each, with Chumphon and Chon Buri snatching one gold apiece in the combat. The SEA Games rifle gold medallist Thanyalak Chotipiboonsilapa handed Bangkok the lone gold in the shooting competition yesterday. Sharing one gold apiece in the sporting discipline were Nonthaburi, Chiang Mai and Phang Nga.
Chiang Mai ruled the roost in the rowing event to take home five gold medals. Bangkok's rowers did their best but had to be content with only three golds. Mae Hong Son and Sing Buri shared two gold each.
Two more golds for Bangkok came in pencak silat and wushu, while Nakhon Ratchasima captured the mixed doubles title in the go (Chinese "chess") and Amnart Charoen's cyclist Seri Ruangsiri bagged the lone gold on offer in the men's 200km race.
Reigning overall champions Bangkok, who took home a total of 131 gold medals in the previous Games in Nakhon Si Thammarat, have so far won 109 golds, 67 silver and 59 bronze medals. Chiang Mai, who claimed seven golds yesterday including five in the rowing, are trailing a distant second with 33 golds.
Chon Buri are in third place with 31 golds, with Suphan and the host province taking 18 and 17 golds to trail in fourth and fifth places respectively.
A haul of 68 gold medals is up for grabs in 17 sporting disciplines today. The largest number will be in the boxing competition, where 17 golds are on offer in both men's and women's events.
