EC clears Veerachai of Bt80 million donation
Election Commission's investigation showed PM's Office Minister Veerachai Virameteekul did not make any donation to the Democrat Party, an EC commissioner said Tuesday.
Sodsri Satayatham said the total donations of Bt170 million has been given to the Democrat Party from January to December 14.
The EC launched exmanination into each donation whether it was done in a hidden way or by people in the same family and did not find any irregularities. And no one has donated more than Bt10 million per year.
Meanwhile Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, also Democrat Party secretary-general, said Veerachai had been cleared of the allegation that he donated Bt80 million in exchange for his Cabinet seat.
Suthep said he did not need to make understanding with Democrat Party Phattalung MP Nipit Intrasombat who made the allegation.
Suthep said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva would have to explain to the party members about the allegation to prevent further misunderstading.
